The Iranian Supreme Leader has appointed Mohammad Mokhber as the interim President following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of President Ebrahim Raisi and his team. Mokhber will oversee the Executive until a new president is elected in the next 50 days, as per the Iranian Constitution.
In an emergency cabinet meeting, Mokhber assured the public that there will be no disruption in the administration of the country. He urged the cabinet members to continue serving the people confidently and strongly.
The cabinet also formed a committee to organize the funeral processions for the late president and his team. Additionally, a caretaker foreign minister and a new governor for East Azerbaijan province will be appointed promptly.
The tragic crash occurred as President Raisi, along with other officials, were returning from the inauguration of a dam in Azerbaijan. Elected in 2021, Raisi was serving as the eighth president of Iran.
Overall, the Iranian government is taking swift and decisive actions in the aftermath of this tragedy to ensure stability and continuity for the nation.
