Chandigarh: In response to severe heatwave conditions, the Punjab government has announced summer holidays for all government, aided, and private schools from May 21 to June 30. Temperatures in several areas of Punjab and Haryana have escalated to 43-45 degrees Celsius.
The Education department issued an order taking into account the heatwave warning from the weather office and concerns for children’s health. The holiday declaration applies to schools across Punjab, including government, aided, and private institutions.
Previously, the department had adjusted school timings to operate from 7 am to noon in response to the extreme weather conditions. This schedule was originally set to be followed until May 31, aiming to protect students and staff from the oppressive heat.
