Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas dismissed NATO allies’ fears about sending troops to Ukraine for training, stating that it would not automatically trigger war with Russia. Some NATO members are considering sending military instructors to assist Ukrainian troops closer to the front lines, in response to Kyiv’s request for help. Kallas emphasized that training Ukrainian soldiers does not inherently escalate conflict with Russia.
The debate was ignited by French President Emmanuel Macron, who suggested sending troops to Ukraine if necessary. However, other NATO members have taken a cautious stance. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur noted the lack of consensus among allies regarding troop deployment in Ukraine.
