Mohammad Mokhber, the interim president of Iran, has taken on the role following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of late President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials. He was approved by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mokhber, appointed as Iran’s first vice president by Raisi in 2021, is a significant figure in Iranian politics. With a wealth of experience leading Iran’s charitable conglomerate, Setad, he now steps into the role of interim president until a new election is held within 50 days.
As a close ally of the supreme leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mokhber’s appointment has been met with both praise and scrutiny. His track record includes overseeing projects across Iran and international negotiations, despite facing sanctions from the European Union in the past.
Under his leadership at Setad, Mokhber navigated the organization through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, spearheading the development of Iran’s main coronavirus vaccine.
With a background in electrical engineering and international law, Mokhber’s diverse expertise has shaped his career from banking to telecommunications before his tenure at Setad. His journey from Dezful to the presidency reflects a lifetime of service to the Iranian people.
