ICC Chief Prosecutor Seeks Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu and Hamas Leader Yehya Sinwar
The International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, announced on Monday that he is pursuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar for their actions during the seven-month Israel-Gaza war. Khan holds them responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Gaza Strip and Israel. He highlighted the use of starvation as a method of warfare and the devastating impact it had on the civilian population.
Khan personally witnessed the aftermath of these actions and expressed the urgent need for accountability. However, Hamas officials criticized the ICC’s decision, equating victims with executioners and claiming it encourages Israel’s “war of extermination.” Israel’s opposition leader and war cabinet minister also condemned the decision, labelling it a distortion of justice and moral bankruptcy.
The ICC’s move to seek arrest warrants for these prominent leaders has sparked controversy and raised questions about the accountability of those involved in the conflict.
