A former Minister of Labour and Chairman of First Bank Nigeria, Ajibola Afonja, passed away at the age of 82. The Oyo-born Prince died on Sunday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and leadership.
Afonja was described as a unifier by the Oyo Global Forum (OGF), with his impact reaching both national and local levels. His dedication to the Oyo community as an industrialist and businessman was unparalleled, and his spirit will continue to inspire many.
During his lifetime, Afonja served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank Plc and was appointed Minister of Labour under the interim government. He was also the chairman of Integrated Dimensional Systems and various other companies.
Having earned a degree in Accounting from Kingston University in the UK, Afonja returned to Nigeria to make significant contributions to the business sector. His passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill, but his values and legacy will be carried forward by those he inspired.
