ICC Chief Prosecutor Seeks Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders and Palestinian Resistance
The International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, has filed applications for arrest warrants against several Israeli leaders and leaders of the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity. Among those targeted are Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Khan’s team has applied for warrants, pending a decision by the court’s pre-trial chamber.
Khan’s statement outlines allegations of war crimes such as starvation of civilians, wilful killing, and persecution. He also acknowledged Israel’s right to self-defense but emphasized the importance of complying with international humanitarian law. The accusations have sparked outrage in Israel and disappointment in Hamas, with conflicting reactions from both sides.
