Exciting News for Vehicle Owners in Oman!
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has recently announced a decision that will benefit private vehicle owners in the country. Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsen al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, issued a decision (No 61/2024) that extends the validity of vehicle operating licenses (mulkiya) for private vehicles beyond the standard one-year period, under certain conditions.
The decision allows for an extension of the mulkiya validity based on the owner’s request, as long as the vehicle is insured and meets specified criteria. Tractors used for agricultural purposes are also exempt from the standard duration requirement.
Furthermore, the decision outlines specific vehicles that are subject to mandatory technical inspection upon registration or renewal of mulkiya, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
This groundbreaking decision, effective from May 13, brings relief to vehicle owners in Oman and streamlines the process of maintaining proper documentation and safety standards for private vehicles.
