Slovak PM out of danger after shooting: minister

Assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico thwarted

Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak confirmed that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s life is no longer in danger after surviving an assassination attempt. Fico was shot four times by a lone gunman, with one bullet hitting his abdomen, leading to hospitalization and two surgeries. Kalinak stated that while Fico’s condition is serious, he has moved past the immediate threat to his life and is stable with a positive prognosis.

The suspected gunman has been arrested and charged with attempted premeditated murder. Fico’s close political ally, Kalinak, assured the public that the government would continue following Fico’s outlined program. Fico, who has been advocating for peace between Russia and Ukraine, won a general election in October and is serving his fourth term as prime minister.

The incident has raised concerns over Fico’s security and the stability of the government. Nevertheless, the successful recovery of the prime minister has brought a sense of relief and optimism to the nation.
