A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi experienced a “hard landing” in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, near Jolfa on the border with Azerbaijan. Raisi was accompanied by Iran’s Foreign Minister, the governor of East Azerbaijan, and other officials.
Despite conflicting reports on whether it was a crash, the incident occurred due to bad weather conditions. There has been no update on Raisi’s condition yet as rescuers try to reach the site amidst poor weather.
Iranian President Raisi inaugurated a dam in Azerbaijan, signaling slight thawing relations amid recent hostilities. Raisi, known for his hardline stance, faces challenges internally and internationally regarding Iran’s nuclear program and regional conflicts.
