HURIWA strongly condemns destruction of interfaith centre, calls for action against religious discrimination

HURIWA, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has strongly condemned the destruction of a Christian Center in Ilorin, labeling it as a racist act and intolerable crime. The group is urging the police to arrest the Islamic extremists allegedly involved and charge them with arson. They emphasize that Ilorin is governed by Nigerian laws, not Shariah law.

Furthermore, HURIWA has criticized the ban on constructing Christian worship centers in universities in Northern Nigeria. They are calling for federal allocations to be suspended from these universities until they comply with constitutional principles that recognize Nigeria as a multi-religious nation.

In response to concerns raised by Bishop Kukah regarding the decline in diversity and meritocracy due to this ban, HURIWA is calling on the National Assembly and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action. They are advocating for Christian students to have equal rights to build churches in federally funded universities where mosques are also allowed.
