Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) launched a campaign to combat the infestation of coconut leaf beetles – Brontispa longissimi – in Dhofar, under the patronage of Hamed bin Awad Sawakhron. Field teams, equipped with resources, are conducting ground and aerial spraying operations using drones for efficiency.
The campaign, running until June 13, aims to protect coconut palms, support the agricultural sector, and assist farmers in pest control. Eng Rashid bin Saeed al Ghafri mentioned that this is the fifth campaign in Dhofar, covering Salalah and Taqah, in collaboration with multiple agencies and volunteers.
A joint meeting was organized by the Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Dhofar with government and private agencies and farmers to discuss the campaign’s progress and schedule. This initiative highlights the ministry’s commitment to preserving the region’s agriculture and supporting local farmers in combating pest infestations.
