Tragedy Strikes in Bamyan: Tourists and Locals Targeted in Attack
A group of tourists and their companions were fired upon while walking through a market in central Afghanistan’s Bamyan province. The Taliban government confirmed the deaths of three Afghan nationals and three Spanish tourists, raising the death toll from the brutal attack in the market.
The victims’ bodies were transported to Kabul, with both locals and foreigners among the deceased and wounded. The injured included individuals from Norway, Australia, Lithuania, and Spain. The attack, which took place in the scenic city of Bamyan, also claimed the lives of two Afghan civilians and a Taliban member.
As investigations continue, the suspects responsible for the attack are in custody, with no group claiming responsibility. Spain mourned the loss of its citizens, and plans are underway to repatriate the victims. Bamyan, a popular tourist destination in Afghanistan, has been marked by tragedy as the Taliban seeks to establish security and promote tourism in the region.
