Recently, the Information and Public Relations Department of the Prime Minister’s Office addressed questions regarding the border delimitation statement made by the commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The statement pertained to the agreed-upon sections of the border between the two countries based on 1976 topographic maps.
The chosen maps from 1976 were utilized to maintain the pre-existing de jure legal basis of the border at the time of the dissolution of the USSR. In the Kirants area, despite some delay in installing all border markers, progress has been made, and the village will regain access to previously inaccessible agricultural land.
Regarding security concerns and allegations of unilateral concessions, the government emphasized that having a delimited border enhances security and that reproducing the border based on the Alma-Ata declaration is not a concession, but a reaffirmation of the internationally recognized border line.
Overall, the border delimitation process has resolved sensitive issues in various areas, and border guards are set to be stationed along the agreed border within the next 8-9 days, with additional attention to sensitive areas like Kirants.
