Gantz demands Gaza reconstruction plan, threatens to quit gov’t | Israel-Gaza conflict updates

Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz has issued an ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, threatening to leave the government if a post-war plan for Gaza is not presented by June 8. Gantz’s six-point plan includes releasing Israeli captives in Gaza, demilitarising the territory, and forming an international coalition to oversee civil affairs. This move deepens the divide within the Israeli government and adds pressure on Netanyahu amid criticism of his policies in Gaza.

Gantz’s demand comes amidst stalled talks with Hamas over a captives and ceasefire deal. In response to mounting tension within the war cabinet, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has also expressed opposition to governing Gaza post-conflict. Meanwhile, opposition leader Yair Lapid has joined protests calling for Netanyahu’s resignation due to his handling of the war.

The lack of a clear post-war plan for Gaza has drawn criticism from the US government, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging Israel to protect civilians and plan for the conflict’s aftermath. As tensions rise both domestically and internationally, the future of Gaza remains uncertain.
