Sowing the Seeds of Change: How Drones are Restoring Forests

In Santa Cruz Cabralia, Bahia, Brazil, a startup is using drones to revitalize degraded land by sowing seeds and fostering the growth of new trees. Morfo, a Franco-Brazilian company, aims to restore one million hectares of land in Brazil by 2030 through this innovative approach.

Deforestation is a pressing issue globally, with countries like Brazil, Afghanistan, and Colombia facing significant challenges. To combat climate change and preserve biodiversity, the United Nations has called for the restoration of one billion hectares of degraded land by 2030.

Using specially adapted drones, Morfo can sow seeds efficiently and access hard-to-reach areas. By combining drone technology with rigorous research and monitoring, the project in Bahia is showing promising results.

Local communities are also involved in seed collection, creating green jobs and fostering a sense of stewardship towards the environment. As the project expands, the goal is to ensure the long-term success of reforestation efforts and create sustainable ecosystems for future generations.
