Tragedy Strikes in Bamiyan: Spanish Tourists Among Victims in Deadly Shooting
Tragedy struck in the picturesque tourism destination of Bamiyan in central Afghanistan, as three Spanish tourists and an Afghan lost their lives in a shooting incident on Friday. The news was confirmed by Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani, who also reported that four other foreigners and three Afghans were wounded in the attack.
Spain’s Foreign Ministry later confirmed that three of the deceased were Spanish nationals, while Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his shock and sorrow over the incident. The European Union joined in condemning the attack and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
Security forces have arrested four individuals in connection with the shooting, as investigations continue. The Taliban government has also condemned the crime and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
While the region of Bamiyan has been a top tourist destination, recent events have raised concerns about safety for visitors. Despite improvements in security since the Taliban’s return to power, caution is advised for those traveling to Afghanistan.
