Transforming Morocco’s Education System: A Global Perspective

Recent findings from the World Education Index by Insider Monkey have placed Morocco in the spotlight, ranking the country at 154th out of 195 nations. This rating takes into account criteria such as the presence of Moroccan universities in the top 1000 globally, their average rankings, and government investment in education.

While the US secures the top position with a score of 0.99, Morocco faces challenges such as inadequate funding for education and research. The prevalent use of French, rather than English, as the primary language of instruction also poses a hurdle in a globalized academic sphere.

Despite these setbacks, Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education is implementing reforms to boost the standing of its universities on a global scale. Initiatives include modernizing teaching methods, digitizing research, and enhancing publication in international academic journals.

As Moroccan universities strive to make their mark globally, other North African countries have already found success, with Tunisia’s University of Sfax making strides in the prestigious Shanghai Ranking’s list of the top 1000 universities worldwide.
