The Israeli delegation is defending against South Africa’s urgent appeal at the ICJ.
During a two-day hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Israeli delegation defended its actions following South Africa’s request for urgent measures in Gaza. Israeli representative Gilad Noam expressed surprise at the hearing’s notification and claimed Israel has been diligent in protecting civilians. South Africa sought provisional measures to end Israel’s offensive in Gaza, citing violations of the court’s orders. The South African delegation highlighted ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people.
South Africa filed an urgent request for additional measures to address the changing circumstances in Gaza. The ICJ previously ruled that Israel’s actions could constitute genocide and ordered humanitarian assistance for civilians. The conflict has resulted in a significant death toll and displacement of Palestinians.
Despite Israel’s claims of casualties on its side, the majority of deaths and injuries are among Palestinian women and children. The situation has led to a severe famine and mass displacement in Gaza, prompting international concern and legal actions at the ICJ.
