A devastating flash flood hit Indonesia’s Sumatra Island over the weekend, caused by monsoon rains and a landslide of mud and cold lava from Mount Marapi. The deluge tore through villages, sweeping away people and homes, leaving behind a path of destruction. Rescuers are working tirelessly to search for survivors and recover bodies from the rubble and rivers in the affected regions.
The National Disaster Management Agency reported that 50 bodies have been found so far, with 27 people still missing. With many remote areas still inaccessible, the death toll is expected to rise. This tragedy comes just two months after a similar disaster in West Sumatra, highlighting the constant threat of landslides and flash floods in Indonesia.
