FG commissions N8bn substation to end 15-yr blackout in Ondo South | Guardian News

The Federal Government has finally put an end to 15 years of blackout in the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State by inaugurating an N8 billion substation. The completed substation, equipped with a 132kV feeder line and 132/33kV transformers, was constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) after the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) failed to rectify the issue.

Communities in four councils of the district have been without electricity for over a decade due to alleged indebtedness to BEDC. The inauguration of the substation is expected to revamp the socio-economic activities in the region, according to the Ondo State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Otito Atikase.

The Erinje electricity project, costing N8.1 billion, includes a 45-kilometer 132-kV feeder line, two 60 MVA 132/33 kV transformers at the Erinje substation, and the rehabilitation of transmission lines. This project will serve five local councils in the oil-producing belt of the state, bringing hope and restored electricity to the communities after years of darkness.
