Europe to import green energy from Azerbaijan soon – UNDP official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 17. Europe looks to import green energy from Azerbaijan in the near future, according to Alessandra Roccasalvo, the acting resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan. Speaking at the “Raising Ambition, Enabling Action” business forum during COP29, Roccasalvo highlighted the potential for European countries to shift towards importing renewable energy sources like solar and wind power from Azerbaijan, rather than relying on traditional oil and gas imports.

Roccasalvo emphasized the importance of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan, where international negotiations on climate change solutions are taking place to secure a sustainable future for the next generation. With the aim of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, collaboration between UNDP and the Azerbaijani government is crucial in addressing climate change challenges through innovation from various sectors.

Additionally, Azerbaijan will host COP29 this November, following the decision made at COP28 in Dubai last year. As a party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Azerbaijan will welcome around 70-80,000 international guests to discuss and implement strategies to combat climate change.
