A free curated exhibit with artifacts, retro-wrapped buses, and $1.50 fare days mark Hamilton Street Railway’s (HSR) 150th anniversary celebrations. HSR plans to offer attractions throughout the summer and fall, starting with retro-wrapped buses and free fares on select routes during customer appreciation week. Commemorative HSR 150 PRESTO cards will also be available.
An exhibit at Lister Block’s visitor center will showcase artifacts and old photographs, offering a glimpse into HSR’s history since the late 1800s. As HSR progresses towards a fully compressed natural gas fleet, it aims to retire all diesel buses within the next 18 months.
Cosyn Heath, the Director of Transit, highlighted HSR’s ridership of 21 million passengers annually and shared plans for a new growth strategy to expand transit over the next five to 10 years. For more details on HSR’s anniversary campaign, visit the City of Hamilton’s website.
