Australian volunteers stranded in Vanuatu due to an airline’s collapse have found a unique way to return home – on a luxury cruise ship. After being left with $10,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, their luck turned around when they managed to secure a seat on a charter plane back to Port Vila, where a P&O cruise ship had docked. The company generously offered them a ride back to Australia on a six-day Pacific Adventure cruise, a move that left the team “thrilled” and grateful for the “opportunity of a lifetime,” according to Hive Rotary Club president Kellie Kadaoui’s social media post.
The volunteers will board the cruise in Port Vila, with P&O covering the cost of their journey back to Sydney on Thursday. This gesture comes after Air Vanuatu’s collapse, leaving the airline with significant debts and prompting the Vanuatu government to step in with financial assistance.
