Government Cuts High School Teachers’ Summer Vacation for Remedial Classes
High school teachers affiliated to the state board are facing dissatisfaction as the government has trimmed their summer break by 15 days to conduct remedial classes for students preparing for SSLC examination 2. This decision follows a rise in the number of students failing SSLC examination 1, prompting the Department of School Education and Literacy to take action.
The shortened vacation schedule has disrupted the plans of many teachers, forcing cancellations of pre-planned trips and activities. H K Manjunath, honorary president of Karnataka High School Assistant Masters’ Association, has requested the department to reconsider its order and implement cluster-based classes for better organization.
While some MLCs are urging the government to retract the circular mandating teachers to return to schools, private schools have expressed readiness to start remedial classes earlier. A representative of a private school management emphasized the importance of prioritizing students’ academic needs over vacation time, highlighting the commitment of teachers to their students.
