Slovakian PM safe after surviving assassination attempt

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico survived an assassination attempt after being shot five times as he left a cabinet meeting. Initially in critical condition, Fico underwent surgery and is now out of danger, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tomas A stall.

One bullet went through Fico’s stomach and another hit his wrist, but he is now reported to be in stable condition. Defense Minister Robert Kalinak described the incident as a politically motivated attack, following the April elections.

The assassination attempt, carried out by a 71-year-old man in Handlovi, shocked Slovakia, a country with little history of political violence. International leaders, including Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, have condemned the attack, emphasizing the importance of political stability in the region.
