Senator Bob Menendez Blames Wife for Gold Bar Scandal
In a surprising turn of events, pro-Armenian Senator Bob Menendez has claimed that he was unaware of the gold bars found in his home, pinning the blame on his wife, Nadine Arslaniyan. Menendez’s lawyer, Avi Weitzman, argued in Manhattan Federal Court that the gold bars were “hidden” in his wife’s closet without his knowledge.
Images presented in court showed the gold bars stored in a locked drawer in the couple’s walk-in closet. Weitzman emphasized that the senator had no knowledge of their presence, urging the jury to believe his innocence.
New charges have been filed against Menendez and his wife, including conspiracy, acting as a foreign agent, bribery, and wire fraud. Allegations suggest that the couple accepted bribes in cash, gold bars, and expensive cars in exchange for political favors facilitated through the senator’s influence.
The scandal also involves businessman Jose Uribe, who confessed to bribery, wire fraud, obstruction of legal proceedings, and tax evasion in Manhattan Federal Court. Uribe allegedly gifted a Mercedes-Benz to Senator Menendez’s wife, implicating the couple further in the scandal.
