Health Minister Joe Phaahla has advised South Africans to keep their medical aid schemes until the National Health Insurance Act is fully implemented. He mentioned that the government will inform citizens when medical aid schemes are no longer necessary.
Phaahla stated, “Keep your medical scheme. Everything will be transparent. The Medical Schemes Council and the ministry will notify the public when all basic services are covered. Hopefully, by 2028, those announcements will be made. Please do not cancel your medical schemes abruptly. Continue paying your debit orders as usual.”
