The National Cyber Security Coordinator, Lieutenant-General Michelle McGuinness, revealed that a commercial health information company informed her of the ransomware attack.

McGuinness stated, “I am working with agencies across the Australian government to coordinate a whole-of-government response to this incident.”

Federal Cyber Security Minister Clare O’Neil confirmed the government’s involvement in addressing the breach and convening a National Coordination Mechanism.

Despite the preliminary nature of the investigation, McGuinness assured the public that updates will be provided as new information emerges.
