Bangkok, Thailand – The late Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkhom was a fearless activist and key figure in the Thai democracy movement. Despite facing legal and physical threats, the 28-year-old remained steadfast in her calls for royal reform, making her a symbol of courage and resilience within her community.
Known for her bold black attire at protests and her unyielding voice, Netiporn’s dedication to advocacy was unwavering. Tragically, on April 14, she passed away from cardiac arrest while in custody, having been held since January on charges of royal defamation and other offenses.
Even in detention, Netiporn continued her fight for justice, including a hunger strike lasting over 110 days. Her death has sparked outrage and calls for reform in Thailand’s judicial system, which has been criticized for its harsh treatment of political dissenters.
