Russia’s new Defense Minister Andrei Belousov has prioritized winning the war in Ukraine “with minimal human losses,” amidst reports of record casualties among Russian troops. Belousov, who replaced Sergei Shoigu, emphasized achieving victory while minimizing human costs.

Russia has not disclosed its actual losses in Ukraine, with the official death toll standing at 5,937 while Ukraine reports significantly higher numbers. France estimates around 150,000 Russian troops killed since the invasion began. Mediazona and BBC Russia have confirmed 49,281 Russian soldier names who died in Ukraine.

President Zelensky stated that at least 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been lost, with the exact number still uncertain. The conflict continues to intensify, with daily casualties increasing, highlighting the toll of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
