Russia condemns the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and wishes him a speedy recovery, stated Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Zakharova praised Fico as a friend of Russia and admired his bravery in standing up against mainstream narratives. She emphasized the importance of upholding principles in today’s transformative times.
Zakharova also criticized the hateful rhetoric surrounding the attack, blaming it on pro-Ukrainian narratives dominating the media. The Russian official pointed out the long-standing issue of Russophobic narratives cultivated by the West.
Following the attack, Fico’s ally, Deputy Parliament Speaker Lubos Blaha, accused the liberal media and political opposition of creating a hostile atmosphere that led to the incident. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak confirmed the attack was politically motivated, with the suspect citing disagreement with government policies.
