Qatar Airways is set to invest in an unidentified airline based in southern Africa in the coming weeks to expand its footprint on the continent. CEO Badr Al-Meer announced this development at the Qatar Economic Forum, revealing that the investment is in its final stage. While the specific airline remains unnamed, Al-Meer hinted that the announcement could be expected in the next two to three weeks. Qatar Airways already serves 31 destinations in Africa and aims to enhance its presence through strategic partnerships and investments.
Furthermore, the airline is finalizing a deal to acquire a 49% stake in RwandAir and is involved in the construction of a new airport near Kigali, Rwanda. The new hub, scheduled for completion in 2027, will compete with Ethiopian Airlines Group for regional dominance.
The government of the State of Qatar sponsors the Qatar Economic Forum, powered by Bloomberg, emphasizing the country’s commitment to economic development and growth.
