New Country Manager appointed for Kyrgyzstan by World Bank

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. The World Bank has appointed Hugh Riddell as the new Country Manager for Kyrgyzstan, with his role based in Bishkek. Riddell will oversee the World Bank’s activities in Kyrgyzstan, engaging in policy dialogues with various stakeholders and ensuring the successful implementation of the Country Partnership Framework.

With a background that includes roles in Washington, D.C., Afghanistan, and East Africa, Riddell brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Country Manager for Malawi. Riddell has also worked with the United Nations, the European Commission, and has experience in investment banking and journalism.

Riddell expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing the importance of critical reforms in sectors like energy, water, and agriculture. He aims to strengthen partnerships with the government of Kyrgyzstan and other key stakeholders to achieve the country’s development goals outlined in the new five-year Country Partnership Framework.
