Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane recently assisted in placing a gadget in the ear of a cow in Tsolo, showcasing the launch of the Livestock Identification and Traceability System (LITS) to combat stock theft.
Local farmers in the Eastern Cape have expressed their support for the introduction of LITS, although they remain skeptical that the ear tags alone can prevent their livestock from being stolen.
LITS, unveiled by the Eastern Cape government in Lujecweni Village, Tsolo, is a technology-driven ear-tag system being distributed to 120 cattle farming enterprises throughout the region.
