Memorial Ceremony Held in Khojaly City Commemorating Russian Peacekeeping Contingent Withdrawal
A ceremony in Khojaly city marked the farewell of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. The event, attended by military personnel from Azerbaijan and Russia, along with embassy representatives and media, began with a photo exhibition showcasing the contingent’s activities. After a moment of silence for fallen soldiers, the national anthems were played. Azerbaijani Army’s General Staff Chief, Karim Valiyev, thanked the peacekeeping contingent for their contributions to peace and stability. Russian Ground Forces’ General Staff Chief, Evgeny Nikiforov, also spoke during the event.
The ceremony included the awarding of medals to military personnel by defense ministers of both countries and an exchange of gifts. The program ended with a concert featuring creative groups from both defense ministries. The Russian peacekeeping contingent, deployed following a joint statement in November 2020, is now being withdrawn from the region.
