Nigerian judiciary compromised, weakened by executive.

In a recent lecture, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, shared his experiences with the judiciary in Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of having incorruptible and independent judges for a functioning justice system.

Obi recounted his own legal battles where he sought justice through the courts and acknowledged the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law. He emphasized the need for a strong and independent judiciary to combat criminality, ensure businesses thrive, and uphold democracy.

Offering solutions, Obi advocated for the independence of the judiciary and non-interference by the executive, citing his own experience as a governor. He commended the late Justice Anthony Aniagolu for his exemplary service to the judiciary and the legal profession.

The lecture, hosted by Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) in Enugu, received praise from guests, including Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State. The event highlighted the importance of upholding the integrity and independence of the judiciary for the future development of Nigeria.
