State Government Decides to Take Back Leased Property in Bengaluru
In a significant development, the state government of Karnataka has made a decision to reclaim a property leased to the Karnataka Pradesh Krishika Samaja due to alleged lease agreement violations. The property, located in a prime area in the heart of Bengaluru, is at the center of this dispute.
The Public Works Department’s principal secretary has issued a communication to the chief engineer, requesting the eviction of the building situated on Nrupatunga Road. The communication, accessed by DH, emphasizes the breach of lease agreement terms.
The decision to revoke the lease stemmed from the misuse of the property and the failure to pay pending rent. Despite requests from Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy to exempt the outstanding dues and allocate the land to the Samaja, the government chose to proceed with eviction.
The PWD’s report to the chief secretary detailed the lease violations by the Krishika Samaja, including subleasing the land for non-permitted commercial purposes. The original terms stipulated construction of a cold storage or departmental store, with a ground rent of Rs 1,000 a year.
Now, the department is taking steps to reclaim the property and enforce the lease conditions as agreed upon.
