14 killed and dozens injured after billboard collapses in India

In a tragic incident in Mumbai, India, at least 14 people lost their lives and several others were injured when a giant billboard collapsed during a sudden storm. Measuring 70m by 50m, the massive structure fell onto houses and a petrol station, trapping some individuals underneath.

Despite the rescue efforts that led to saving around 80 people, including those trapped inside a severely damaged car, there are still ongoing operations to free the remaining individuals. The government has launched an inquiry into the incident, revealing that the billboard exceeded the permitted size and was erected without proper authorization.

The storm also caused chaos in the city, leading to disrupted travel, power cuts, and temporary suspension of flights at the international airport. Mumbai, known for facing monsoon-season challenges, continues to battle rain-related incidents and flooding, highlighting the need for better safety regulations.
