Reports of illegal distribution of money ahead of elections in Andhra Pradesh have sparked controversy, with political parties allegedly offering bribes to voters. In several instances, residents protested after not receiving promised amounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 6,000 per vote.
According to media reports, the distribution of money for votes has been rampant, with government employees on poll duty receiving Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 each. Cases of voters protesting in Palnadu’s Sattenapalli and Pithapuram have been reported, leading to police intervention in some instances.
Furthermore, the use of municipal corporators’ offices and other makeshift locations to distribute money in exchange for votes has been documented. Residents have voiced concerns about the need for stricter enforcement of electoral laws to combat corruption within the voting process.
With a total of 4.14 crore voters in Andhra Pradesh, including male, female, third gender, and service electors, the recent incidents highlight the importance of fair and transparent elections in the state.
Addressing the issue of illegal money distribution and ensuring the integrity of the electoral system must be a top priority for authorities in Andhra Pradesh.
