Several East African nations experienced disruptions in internet connectivity on Sunday due to failures affecting the SEACOM and EASSy subsea cable systems, according to internet observatory Netblocks.
High impact was felt in Tanzania and Mayotte, while Mozambique and Malawi reported medium impact. Cloudflare also confirmed ongoing disruptions in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and Madagascar attributed to faults in the EASSy and SEACOM cables.
Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Nape Nnauye, stated that efforts were underway to resolve the issue, causing low access to internet and international voice calls. Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecom operator, implemented redundancy measures to minimize service interruptions following notification of an outage on one of the country’s cables.
