Nzimande’s Critique on Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians
In a powerful op-ed published in the Sunday Times, Blade Nzimande, South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education, spoke out against Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. He criticized western nations for backing Israel financially, militarily, and diplomatically, describing it as “one of the biggest injustices of our time”.
Nzimande emphasized the oppression faced by Palestinians due to western imperialism and condemned the University of Stellenbosch for not supporting a motion condemning the genocide and destruction in Gaza. He highlighted the killing of professors and destruction of universities, urging for a strong stance against Israeli aggression.
He called on all South African universities to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians and reject neutrality in the face of genocide. Nzimande’s unwavering critique of Israel’s actions and global support for the Palestinian cause exemplifies a call for justice and solidarity.
