Nurses Day: Expert praises dedication in face of challenges | The Guardian Nigeria News

Nurses in Nigeria are being recognized and celebrated for their unwavering dedication to providing quality care despite working in challenging environments. Mrs. Olajumoke Akinola, Head Nursing at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), emphasized the importance of investing in the nursing sector in Nigeria, highlighting the economic and societal benefits that come from supporting nurses.

International Nurses Day, observed on May 12 every year, commemorates the birth of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. This day serves as an opportunity to appreciate and thank nurses for their tireless efforts in caring for patients around the clock.

An effective nursing workforce not only enhances patient outcomes but also improves the overall wellbeing of the community. Akinola emphasized the need for government support to invest in the welfare and working conditions of nurses to attract and retain skilled professionals.

On this International Nurses Day, let us acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable work that nurses do daily to deliver excellent care. Every nurse deserves recognition and encouragement to continue their vital work, following in the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, the mother of modern nursing.
