Mother of five convicted for forging Abba Kyari’s signature

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has convicted Mrs. Ramat Mercy Mba for forging the signature of the late Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Buhari. The court deferred sentencing to May 16, 2024 and remanded her in Suleja Correctional Centre.

Mba was charged with cheating, fraud, and forgery by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Evidence presented during the trial showed how she duped job seekers by promising them positions in government agencies.

She forged a letterhead of the Office of the Chief of Staff and Kyari’s signature to request recruitment at ICPC. Kyari disowned the letter, leading to Mba’s conviction on counts of cheating and forgery.

Justice Ibrahim Muhammad convicted her on several counts but discharged her on one. This case highlights the dangers of fraudulent activities and the consequences of preying on vulnerable job seekers.
