Supreme Court grants interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal
The Supreme Court has taken a significant step by granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister and AAP leader. This decision corrects a wrong and ensures that Kejriwal can exercise his political and democratic right to campaign in the elections.
The court has distinguished between the legality of Kejriwal’s arrest and its political implications. While the legality is still pending, the court has asserted that his right to campaign cannot be denied. Kejriwal has been granted bail until June 1, allowing him to participate in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
However, there are conditions attached to the bail – Kejriwal is prohibited from attending the chief minister’s office and from signing official files. This distinction highlights that it is the AAP leader Kejriwal who has been granted bail, not the Chief Minister.
