The transition for children with disabilities from special schools to the community can be challenging for carers who have not received professional training. The government has set up special teams in 21 district support centers to provide post-school care plans and link school leavers with community services. These teams aim to assist 600 school leavers and their carers annually and offer support for 18 months after schooling ends.
The lack of tailor-made services and proper training for carers has led to emotional difficulties and struggles in care duties. The new community support teams aim to bridge this gap and provide assistance for those who graduate from vocational training schools as well.
By increasing awareness and support, the government hopes to prevent family tragedies caused by the stress of caring for individuals with disabilities. The new services aim to provide a clearer direction and support system for families transitioning from special schools to community living.
