Itanagar-Naharlagun Faces Surge in Dog Bite Cases: Urgent Measures Implemented
The twin capital city of Itanagar-Naharlagun is experiencing a concerning increase in dog bite incidents, with 117 cases reported in the past week, as per the district medical officer’s report. The rise has been linked to the prevalence of unvaccinated stray dogs in the area.
To tackle the issue, ICR Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta has issued directives for pet owners to vaccinate their animals and safely confine aggressive pets within 15 days. Failure to comply may result in pet eviction.
Pet owners are advised to leash their animals outdoors, report any signs of rabies promptly, and cooperate with the Itanagar Municipal Corporation and Arunachal Dog and Cat Rescue NGO in capturing strays. Additionally, Extra Assistant Commissioners and veterinary officers are tasked with administering rabies vaccinations to strays to ensure public safety.
These measures aim to curb dog-related incidents and emphasize responsible pet ownership for a healthier community. It is crucial for all residents to collaborate in creating a safe environment in the Itanagar Capital Region.
