Colombian President Gustavo Petro has boldly condemned the ongoing war in Gaza as nothing short of a “genocide.” He called upon the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Security Council to intervene and prevent the brutal genocide of the Palestinian people in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.
Despite international condemnation, Israel’s war cabinet approved the expansion of the military operation in Rafah, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defiantly vowing to continue the campaign against Hamas militants. President Petro took to X (formerly Twitter) to lambast Netanyahu, demanding an international arrest warrant from the ICC to stop the genocide.
President Petro also urged the UN Security Council to consider deploying a peacekeeping force in Gaza. Israel’s punitive military operation in the Rafah continues to escalate, with reports of numerous civilian casualties amid the conflict. The situation has drawn grim parallels to accusations of genocide committed by the Israeli military in Gaza by the United Nations International Court of Justice earlier this year.
