The Slovenian government has officially started the process of recognizing the State of Palestine, citing the ongoing horrors in Gaza as a reason for their decision. Prime Minister Robert Golob emphasized the need for Israel to stop its attacks and engage in peaceful negotiations instead. This move by Slovenia is intended to encourage faster progress in UN discussions for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
Supported by a unanimous agreement by the ruling coalition, Golob hopes that Slovenia’s recognition will pave the way for other European countries to follow suit. According to Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union, several other EU member states are expected to recognize Palestine by the end of May.
