President Michael D Higgins is set to speak at the Robert Tressell Festival in Dublin’s Liberty Hall tonight. The festival, which honors author Robert Tressell, will also feature speakers such as Amazon Labour Union leader Chris Smalls, British MP Jeremy Corbyn, and RMT trade union leader Mick Lynch.
Robert Tressell, born Robert Noonan in Dublin in 1870, is known for his impactful novel ‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists’ which has influenced the trade union movement and progressive politics. Irish trade union leaders will also participate in the event, which will include panel discussions, lectures, musical performances, drama, and art exhibitions.
Owen Reidy, General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, expressed that the festival showcases the contributions of the labor and progressive movement through art and solutions for workers’ issues. The event serves as a platform for Irish trade unions to collaborate with international partners on navigating challenges faced in today’s world.
